Fender Fretless Jazz Bass - 1996 - MIJ - Rosewood - Upgraded
Fender Fretless Jazz Bass - 1996 - MIJ - Rosewood - Upgraded
This 1996 Fender Fretless Jazz Bass, crafted in Japan, epitomizes timeless craftsmanship and musical versatility. The sleek rosewood fingerboard's 9.5"radius accentuates its smooth, fretless playability and the upgrade to a Badass bridge, this bass delivers a warm, resonant tone that effortlessly spans genres from jazz to funk to rock. The pickups are original, but they were rewound by Atlanta-based luthier Bryan Lilje who added 200 extra winds to each pickup, giving them a fuller, warmer, and slightly darker output than you would normally get from a Jazz Bass. Its beautiful black finish, complemented by a striking white pickguard, and weighing in at 9.25 pounds, gives this bass aesthetic appeal while preserving its classic allure. Whether playing expressive melodies or laying down deep grooves, this instrument embodies both sophistication and raw power, making it a prized companion for discerning musicians and collectors alike.
The 1990s was part of the Golden Age for Fender's factory in Japan. You can really feel that attention to detail and the craftsmanship that went into this bass. It has been well loved. There are surprisingly few dents and dings on this instrument, especially considering it's almost 30 years old. It is strung with flatwounds and from the looks of the fingerboard, that's all it has ever had on it. The back of the headstock is stamped with the Fender 50th Anniversary mark. If you've owned or played any guitars from that series, you know that Fender was paying close attention to the detail that went into each of these instruments.
These instruments do NOT come up for sale very often. This bass has had the right mods done to it to preserve and enhance its original quality. You would be hard pressed to find another one as nice as this. Yes, it has some dents and dings, but nothing serious and nothing you wouldn't expect on a 30 year old bass. It's not going to stick around long. Don't miss out on the chance to play such a wonderful instrument!
